More Care Closer To Home At Sunbury Community Hospital

VIC Premier

The Allan Labor Government is making sure families in Melbourne's outer north west get the care they need - with more services available at the new Sunbury Community Hospital.

Minister for Health Mary-Anne Thomas today visited the community hospital to announce even more services are becoming available, including doubling the number of chemotherapy chairs available to local patients.

The Labor Government has progressively upgraded Sunbury Community Hospital - transforming the former day hospital into a modern, health service with a greater range of services.

With each stage of development, more care options and services for local families have been added - from dialysis to chemotherapy - making it easier to access vital treatment close to home.

From July 2025, Sunbury Community Hospital will open three additional chemotherapy chairs, increase diagnostic imaging by recruiting more staff and deliver more endoscopy procedures with extra day surgery sessions on site.

This expansion means more patients will be able to receive vital treatment and day procedures locally, helping reduce stress for families, cut wait times and ease pressure on Sunshine Hospital.

It builds on the existing day medical, surgical, chemotherapy, haemodialysis and specialist outpatient services already provided by the Sunbury Community Hospital.

The services delivered are complemented by the nearby Sunbury Urgent Care Clinic which is giving locals access to care for non-life-threatening conditions like mild infections, fractures and burns, without needing to visit a busy emergency department.

The Labor Government's is investing more than $31 billion into Victoria's health system this year - the biggest investment ever in frontline care.

This includes a record $9.3 billion boost to give every public hospital the certainty to plan for the future and keep delivering the world-class care Victorians rely on.

As stated by Minister for Health Mary-Anne Thomas

"This is about delivering better care, closer to home - and the expanded services at Sunbury Community Hospital mean locals can access the services they need without the need to travel far."

"Our investment in our community hospitals and alternative care such as the Virtual Emergency Department and Urgent Care Clinics are just some of the ways we're making sure all Victorians can receive care sooner."

As stated by Member for Sunbury Josh Bull

For families across our region, the upgraded Sunbury Community Hospital means better care closer to home - expanding critical oncology services to ensure Sunbury families can receive the care they need locally.
