More Charges Filed in Ongoing Sydney CBD Protest Probe

A further two people have been charged as investigations continue into a planned public assembly in Sydney's CBD last month.

A major police operation was conducted in Sydney's CBD on Monday 9 February 2026 with officers from across the metropolitan region assisted by specialist units.

Thousands of participants gathered at Town Hall about 5pm, and at the conclusion of the speeches, the crowd assembled on George Street.

A section of the crowd attempted to push past officers with the intention of marching, against the Public Assembly Restriction Declaration (PARD).

The crowd were issued a number of directions by police to disperse in accordance with the PARD and Major Events Act.

When participants failed to comply, officers moved to disperse the crowd, including anyone who had stopped and was blocking pedestrian access.

At the time, 27 people were arrested with nine people charged. They remain before the courts.

Officers attached to Central Metropolitan Region established Strike Force Laine to investigate the actions of participants and a further 14 people have since been charged. They remain before the courts.

As part of ongoing inquiries, strike force investigators arrested two women this morning (Wednesday 25 March 2026)

A 27-year-old woman was arrested at Potts Point and taken to Kings Cross Police Station where she was charged with Assault police officer in execution of duty, hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty and possess prohibited drug.

Police will allege in court that the woman was found in possession of cannabis.

She was granted conditional bail to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Tuesday 5 May 2026.

A 31-year-old woman was arrested at Kellyville and taken to Castle Hill Police Station where she was charged with offensive or indecent behaviour within major event area and affray.

She was granted conditional bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Wednesday 6 May 2026.

Investigations under Strike Force Laine continue.
