More homes where Tasmanians want to live

Nic Street, Minister for Housing and Construction

The Rockliff Liberal Government is continuing to increase the supply of housing in regional areas with an eight-unit development to be delivered in the community of Fingal.

Homes Tasmania, through the Community Housing Growth Program, has awarded funding of $1.08 million to the development with Centacare Evolve Housing also investing towards the development delivery.

Minister for Housing and Construction, Nic Street, commended Centacare Evolve Housing and the Break O'Day Council on their efforts to provide much needed social housing in our regional areas.

"Tasmania is facing housing challenges statewide and this is an excellent example of the private sector and local government working together to make smart use of available land via infill development," Minister Street said.

"We know our regional towns are the backbone of Tasmania and they are places where people want to live, with demand for social housing not just confined to our major population centres.

"That's why the Rockliff Liberal Government will continue to support more safe, affordable and fit-for-purpose housing for Tasmanians - wherever they live.

"I want to highlight the welcome support of the Break O'Day Council that has provided the land and is rezoning it for residential development.

"All stakeholders involved are keen to ensure that this development benefits the community and strikes the right balance for the residents of Fingal.

"I encourage input from the local community on this project, which is available to them through this statutory consultation period."

The Rockliff Liberal Government is working to overcome the housing challenges facing Tasmanians and is responding with the most ambitious long-term housing plan in the State's history backed by our commitment to deliver 10,000 more social and affordable homes by 2032.
