More than 80 new social houses will be built across Canberra as the ACT Government and Commonwealth Government today finalised funding for the latest round of Housing Australia Future Fund (HAFF) funding.
The latest funding round will boost Canberra's social housing market by an additional 85 homes with several projects across the Inner North, Inner South and Gungahlin Districts.
This round has seen close, effective collaboration between two Labor Governments to get projects to contract sooner and deliver on a shared commitment to deliver more housing.
These homes will support individuals and families who need it most —including older women at risk of homelessness and women and children escaping situations of family or domestic violence.
The ACT Government is committed to delivering 5000 additional public, community and affordable rental dwellings in Canberra by the end of 2030.
A second round of HAFF funding for an additional 85 homes means more public housing supply across Canberra.
Separately, earlier this month the ACT announced the delivery of the first 17 homes under the Commonwealth-funded Social Housing Accelerator Program (SHAP).
Both programs demonstrate what can be achieved when two Labor Governments work together to deliver more housing.
