More than 200 Teachers join Territory Schools

NT Government

Today, the Northern Territory Government welcomes our newest teachers and principals.

We welcome more than 200 new teachers and 22 new principals into their new roles.

Of these 210 new teachers, 50 are local, 145 have moved from interstate and 15 are international educators who have come to teach in the NT.

160 new teachers will be commencing in the classroom from January 2024, with the remaining recruits already starting their career as a NT educator in semester 2, 2023.

The new teachers will bring a range of experience to our 151 Government schools, with some having worked in the education system for many years and others recently graduating from university.

Held in the lead up to Term 1, the Territory Labor Government facilities an orientation event, which supports recent recruits to develop an understanding of the key priorities for NT schools, along with connection to support and resources to enable our educators to deliver quality teaching and learning.

Students kick off the 2024 school year on Tuesday 30 January.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Education, Mark Monaghan:

"The Territory is the best and most rewarding place to build your teaching career.

"Congratulations on your well-deserved appointments, Territory students deserve the very best education, and we're thrilled to have such a robust cohort of educators who are committed to providing excellent learning outcomes for our children.

"70.2 per cent of our Government schools are in remote or very remote areas across vast geography, we are a jurisdiction filled with extremely talented and dedicated educators who work hard and go above and beyond for their students.

"In 2024, we will see more than 200 educators begin their NT teaching journey, which is a rich indication of the opportunities which come with teaching in the Territory."
