Labor is getting on with the job of delivering more than one thousand new homes right in the heart of Melbourne.
More than 1,500 homes have been approved in the CBD, giving more Victorians the chance to live close to work, study and opportunity.
The Minister for Planning has approved a 65-storey development at 400 Queen Street, which will deliver:
- 693 new apartments
- 900 purpose-built student homes
- An $8 million contribution towards affordable housing
- Office space and retail shops.
Future residents will be steps from Queen Victoria Market, close to Flagstaff, Melbourne Central and State Library stations, and within walking distance of RMIT and the University of Melbourne.
This $495 million project is a clear vote of confidence in Melbourne and in our plan to build more homes where they're needed most.
Victoria continues to lead the nation in home building approvals, but we know there's more to do.
That's why we're overhauling the planning system - cutting delays and removing red tape to get more homes built.
Jess Wilson's Liberals have made it clear they will rip up our planning reforms - meaning fewer homes, more delays and more young Victorians locked out.
Only Labor has new solutions to make life easier and more affordable for Victorians.
As stated by Minister for Planning Sonya Kilkenny
"We've approved more than 1,500 homes right in the heart of the CBD - so more people can live closer to work, uni, public transport and everything they need."
"Labor is focused on making it easier to build homes close to public transport and jobs - Jess Wilson's Liberals want to rip up our planning reforms and stop homes from being built."
