More Victorians Waiting Longer For Care Under Labor

Liberal Party Victoria

New data has confirmed a growing number of Victorians are waiting longer for vital surgery and healthcare under the Allan Labor Government.

The latest figures from the Victorian Agency for Health Information (VAHI) for the March 2026 quarter reveal:

  • 68,116 patients are waiting for vital surgery, an increase of 4,103 from the previous quarter and almost 8,000 more than the same time last year.
  • The average overdue wait time for category 2 elective surgery patients is 169 days beyond the clinically recommended time.
  • The average overdue wait time for category 3 elective surgery patients is 304 days beyond the clinically recommended time.
  • Waiting times for general dental care have increased to 14.5 months, up from 13.5 months from the last quarter and two months more than same time last year.
  • The numbers of Category 2 patients waiting for surgery has increased from 29,656 to 31,141.

Furthermore, Ambulance response times across the state remain well below target, with only 66.4 per cent of Code 1 cases arriving within 15 minutes, against a target of 85 per cent.

Shadow Minister for Health, Georgie Crozier, said: "Under Labor, too many Victorians are waiting for their surgery. These latest figures show that the numbers are not getting better, in fact they are getting worse.

"There may be a new Health Minister, but it is the same spin, deflection and empty promises from the Allan Labor Government.

"Victorians are paying the price for Labor's mismanagement. Only a Liberal and Nationals Government will fix the broken health system and deliver the world class health care Victorians deserve."
