More Ways To Top Up Quickly On Train And Tram

  • Minister for Public Transport

Passengers will have more options to quickly top up their myki and check their balance with 40 more Quick Top Up and Enquiry Machines (QTEMs) to be installed across the train and tram network this month.

Minister for Public Transport Melissa Horne today announced the rollout of the new machines, which allow passengers to top up their myki using contactless payments in as little as 15 seconds.

The fast, user-friendly machines will be installed at train stations and trams stops in Melbourne's CBD, western, northern and south-eastern suburbs and in Bendigo, increasing the total number across the network to 90.

QTEMs were first introduced onto the network in June 2016 with machines installed at nine busy Melbourne locations and one at Geelong station.

In late 2018, 40 QTEMs were installed at stations and stops in suburbs including Box Hill, Camberwell, Thomastown, Watergardens, South Morang, Nunawading, Tarneit and Yarraville.

The 90 QTEMs that will be operating by the end of March are on top of 580 myki vending machines, 720 retail outlets and 83 premium stations on the metropolitan train network that also accept cash as payment.

As noted by Minister for Public Transport Melissa Horne

"The installation of these fast, new machines is part of a wider program of works currently being rolled out to improve the overall travel experience for all Victorian public transport users."

"Passengers can top up in as little as 15 seconds using these machines – reducing that last-minute dash to the platform."
