Moreton Bay Expands Disaster Aid Eligibility

Personal Hardship Assistance through the joint Commonwealth-state Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) is available to more Moreton Bay residents following this week's ferocious storms.

The following new suburbs have been activated for support: Armstrong Creek, Bellthorpe, Booroobin, Burpengary, Burpengary East, Caboolture, Cashmere, Cedar Creek, Cedarton, Clear Mountain, Closeburn, Commissioners Flat, Dakabin, Dayboro, Deception Bay, Eatons Hill, Kallangur, Lawnton, Mango Hill, Morayfield, Narangba, Petrie, Samsonvale and Stanmore.

This takes the total number of Moreton Bay suburbs activated for Personal Hardship Assistance in response to Monday's hailstorms to 61, with eligible residents able to access grants for emergency purchases and recovery needs.

Federal Minister for Emergency Management Kristy McBain said all necessary support will continue to be delivered for impacted SEQ communities.

"The Australian and Queensland Governments are working with all affected councils to fully understand the recovery needs of the south-east," Minister McBain said.

"These personal hardship grants will make sure impacted Moreton Bay residents have the emergency funds required to get through this challenging initial recovery period."

Queensland Minister for Disaster Recovery Ann Leahy said community recovery and safety was top priority for the region.

"The clean-up from these storms remains ongoing, and our government is supporting affected Queenslanders every step of the way," Minister Leahy said.

"Residents in activated areas of Moreton Bay can check their eligibility and apply via www.qld.gov.au/disasterhelp or by calling the Queensland Community Recovery Hotline on 1800 173 349."

Personal Hardship Assistance available to eligible Moreton Bay residents:

  • Emergency Hardship Assistance – $180 per person, up to $900 for a family of five or more to purchase immediate essentials like food, clothing and medicine.
  • Essential Services Hardship Assistance – $150 per person, up to $750 for a family of five or more to assist with immediate needs following the loss of essential services at home for more than five consecutive days.
  • Essential Household Contents Grants – income-tested assistance for uninsured residents, up to $1,765 for individuals and up to $5,300 for couples or families to replace destroyed essential household contents such as bed linen and whitegoods.
  • Structural Assistance Grants – up to $80,000 for uninsured, income-tested owner-occupiers towards the repair or replacement of a disaster damaged dwelling to return it to a safe and habitable condition.
  • Essential Services Safety and Reconnection Scheme – income-tested grants to help uninsured residents reconnect damaged services like electricity, gas, water or sewerage. Up to $5,000 per household.
