
We're incredibly proud to share that Mornington Peninsula Shire Council has been recognised at the 2026 Local Government Professionals (LGPro) Awards for Excellence, with two category wins and two finalists.
Mayor Stephen Batty said the awards acknowledged the stellar work officers and the Shire's commitment to community connections and delivering the best.
"The awards showcase best practice across the Local Government sector, promoting the work of our incredible professionals who work for and with the communities we serve," he said.
"An outstanding result that showcases the impact of our work across the community. The LGPro Awards recognise best practice across the local government sector, highlighting initiatives that deliver meaningful outcomes through innovation, collaboration and leadership."
Winner - First Nations Community Partnership
Ngawak Biik - Briars Junior Ranger project
A culturally led program connecting First Nations young people to Country, with congratulations to Jo Fyfe, Carissa Watts, Maya Coff and Isaiah Columbine, along with the broader Briars and Destinations teams.
Winner - Diversity and Inclusion
All Abilities Boating - Hastings pontoon hoist
An outstanding project improving accessibility to boating, made possible by Monica Seal, Lauren Carlomagno working in partnership with Better Boating Victoria, Hastings Yacht Club, Wallara and Westernport Marina.
Finalist - Best Practice and Innovation in Council Plan Development
Council Strategic Planning Project 2025-29
A significant whole-of-organisation effort delivering key strategic plans, led by Jarrod Lawson and Jackie Thorne, with contributions from many teams across the Shire.
Finalist - Community Partnerships
Radio Western Port
A collaborative initiative strengthening community connection and learning, led by Marisel Lassalle and Tricia Folvig. Shire funding supported establishment of the internet-based Radio Western Port with a diverse range of programs recorded by local students and residents.
