Minister for Health and Ambulance Services Yvette D'Ath said the Morrison government needed to immediately commit to a fairer health funding model in the upcoming budget, including an even 50/50 split towards the cost of running Queensland's public health system.
"This Tuesday, Scott Morrison and his Treasurer can deliver Queensland the health funding it needs," the Minister said.
"As things currently stand, Queensland is bearing the cost of 55 per cent versus the Commonwealth's 45 per cent.
"As fewer Queenslanders can access GPs, there is more and more pressure on our hospitals.
"Increasing the Commonwealth's funding contribution to 50 per cent will mean we can create more beds, hire more doctors, nurses and health workers and deliver more services.
"Queensland isn't alone in calling for more Commonwealth funding.
"All the States and Territories, regardless of their political persuasion, have been calling on the Morrison government demanding a fair 50/50 funding split.
"We also want to see the federal budget fund care packages for the almost 600 Queenslanders in public hospital beds who would be better placed in more appropriate care settings.
"That's why we want to see a fair share of health funding from the Morrison government on Tuesday."
The Palaszczuk Government is calling on the Commonwealth to use Tuesday's Federal Budget to deliver the meaningful reforms that they have neglected since 2013:
- 50/50 funding for the public health system
- Removal of 6.5 per cent growth cap on health funding
- Fix Primary Care
- Ensure people who require aged and disability care are getting access to accommodation rather than getting stuck living in our hospitals
- Restoring the coalition's 30 per cent cut to the National Partnership Agreement on Public Dental Services
