Motorist rescued from flood waters in Cobrico

A motorist is lucky to be alive after his vehicle was swept away by flood waters in Cobrico, near Terang last night.

Police have been told the man was travelling in his Holden sedan on Bend Road, between Roycrofts and Spring Dam roads, when he attempted to cross the fast-flowing flood waters about 10.15pm.

The car was taken about 80m downstream before coming to rest on a tree.

When police arrived the 42-year-old man was standing on the roof of his car with the water rising to around window height.

State Emergency Service (SES) personnel used a boat to successfully navigate their way to the man in dangerous conditions.

They rescued the man returning him safely to the roadside.

The local man was very lucky not to be physically injured.

Police have ongoing enquiries to make in relation to the incident.

It is expected the car will be retrieved from the water when the conditions subside.
