Ms White must finally correct record

Elise Archer,Attorney-General

Labor Opposition Leader Rebecca White must immediately and finally correct the record on statements she made to the media which have been called out as incorrect by the Integrity Commission.

Enough is enough. The pattern of behaviour being shown by Ms White, based on mistruths and misleading information, including in her Budget Reply speech yesterday, is simply unacceptable and needs to be called out. She must be held to account.

Ms White has previously misrepresented a discussion she had with the CEO of the Integrity Commission, Mr Michael Easton by attributing comments to him, that he never made. These comments were then reported in a media story.

During Question Time on 23 June 2021, the Premier asked Ms White to clarify her reported comments, and correct the record.

Subsequently in her personal explanation at the end of Question Time that same day, Ms White did not dispute that she misrepresented the discussion with Mr Easton by attributing comments to him that he never made, and she has still not corrected the record over two months later.

I have tabled a Notice of Motion today calling on Ms White to correct the record, and if she does not, she risks being in contempt of the House if it passes.

Ms White should correct the record at the earliest opportunity in the House today. The Parliament cannot continue to be disrespected in this way.
