Please be advised that planned controlled fuel-reduction burn of bushland in the Muirhead area will commence on Tuesday, 3 May, and is likely to continue for several days. The length of time required to complete the job will be dependent on the weather. But it is expected the burn-off will take several days.
The burn-off will occur in the bushland buffer backing onto the sewage ponds. City of Darwin wants to take advantage of early Dry Season weather to ensure the safest possible burning conditions. This will also help minimise smoke emissions. But residents should expect smoke in the area. Burning will start in the late afternoons and continue into the evenings.
Firebreaks have been put in place. The controlled burn is necessary to reduce fuel loads following the treatment of grassy weeds. It will also ensure public safety during the Dry Season.
Members of the public should avoid the area during burning and heed any signage and directions from staff and contractors.
City of Darwin has engaged a qualified contractor with an appropriate NT fire permit to conduct the burn.
