Mural breathes life into Prahran Market precinct

Sonsie was commissioned by Stonnington to create a mural that would reinvigorate and inspire the community after a long period of Covid-19 closures and restrictions, and bring life back to the Prahran Market precinct.

City of Stonnington Acting Mayor, Cr Melina Sehr said the mural will stimulate, excite and inspire – and create a place the community feels comfortable spending time in.

"The mural really defines this precinct now, and coupled with the newly-built community parklet over the road, this area is really inviting for visitors and locals to enjoy for years to come.

"We recognise that arts, culture and creativity are at the heart of health, wellbeing and prosperity, and are key drivers of economic, cultural and social growth," she said.

With these elements in mind, Sonsie has creatively highlighted the importance of fresh produce, the Market's progression over the years, and the feel that the Market generates for its traders, visitors and locals.

Aligning with the City of Stonnington's objectives to provide its diverse community with a safe, inclusive and creative city, the mural also emphasises the importance of sustainability and the future of food production.
