Murder charge over fatal stabbing - Balmain East

A man has been charged with murder after another man was fatally stabbed at Balmain East.

About 4pm (Thursday 28 November 2019), emergency services were called to a home on Nicholson Street, Balmain East, after reports of a concern for welfare.

On arrival, police located the body of a 62-year-old man.

A 40-year-old man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics. He was taken into custody and transported to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital where he underwent surgery.

Officers from Leichhardt Police Area Command established a crime scene and initiated an investigation under Strike Force Zuber.

About 6.35pm on Friday 29 November 2019, the 40-year-old man was released from hospital and taken to Newtown Police Station where he was charged with murder.

The Balmain East man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court via audio video link today (Saturday 30 November 2019).
