Murder charges laid after Tamworth house fire

A 60-year-old man has been charged after two bodies were discovered following a house fire in Tamworth this morning.

About 5.30am (Thursday 17 October 2019), emergency services attended Bylong Road after receiving reports of a house fire.

The bodies of two people, believed to be an adult and child, were located inside. A 27-year-old woman and a seven-year-old boy were taken to Tamworth Base Hospital. The woman remains in a critical condition suffering burns to her body. The boy was treated for smoke inhalation and minor burns and is stable.

Tonight, detectives charged the man with two counts of murder. He has been refused bail and court appearance details are being finalised.

Investigations by detectives attached to Strike Force Glendare are continuing.
