The Murrumbidgee Trails Visitor Guide, a collaborative project between Narrandera, Leeton, Lockhart and Murrumbidgee Councils, has been named as a finalist in the NSW Local Government Excellence Awards in the Special Projects Category.

The councils will be represented at a gala awards dinner in Sydney 3 June and will be widely recognised as either a finalist or overall winner in the Special Project Initiative-Population under 100,000 category.

A Local Government NSW Professionals’ representative commented that the Murrumbidgee Trails Visitor Guide submission was “a pleasure to review and a selection committee standout”.

Mayor of Narrandera Shire, Councillor Neville Kschenka said today that this project was an excellent example of what neighbouring councils can do when they recognise mutual opportunities that arise from close cooperation.

“A dedicated project team comprising staff from all four partner councils developed the joint guide concept and designed and published the Visitor Guide both as a colourful and informative hard copy available through Visitor Information Centres and other outlets and as an online publication,” Mayor Kschenka said.

The online publication is available at enabling travellers to have easy access to a wide range of information while travelling. The connectivity between the respective shires is highlighted so that travellers will be tempted to maximise their stay in the area.

The visitor guide was jointly funded by all four councils with the project team pursuing opportunity through a continuing marketing program.

Meanwhile the Visitor Guide project team is working on a submission to jointly attract a large tourism conference to the area in March 2022.
