The Honourable Minister of National Defence, David J. McGuinty, issued the following statement to recognize Military Family Appreciation Day:
"Families are the foundation of our lives. They give us strength, belonging and a place to turn through every challenge and every triumph.
"On this 8th annual Military Family Appreciation Day, we recognize the spouses, children, parents, siblings and loved ones who stand behind members of the Canadian Armed Forces every day.
"Military service asks a great deal not only of those who wear the uniform, but of the families who support them. Deployments mean time apart. Postings can mean a new home, a new job or a new school. Plans change, responsibilities shift, and families adapt, often quietly and without recognition.
"Through it all, military families provide the stability, encouragement and support that help our members serve Canada. Their resilience strengthens our Canadian Armed Forces and the communities they call home.
"Today, and every day, we recognize that contribution. To Canada's military families, thank you for everything you do, for the sacrifices you make, and for the strength you bring to our Defence community and to our country."
