Investment In Weed Control Delivering Real Results

Tasmanian Government

The Tasmanian Government's investment in invasive weed management is delivering tangible results.

Through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, we are rolling out the successful Weeds Action Fund project across agricultural land, showing how targeted action can protect productive farmland and the environment.

Minister for Primary Industries and Water, Minister Pearce, said it was pleasing to visit Heybridge and see firsthand how the Invasive Grasses Weeds Action Fund Project is helping property owners tackle serrated tussock and protect productive agricultural land.

"Serrated tussock is one of Tasmania's most significant invasive grasses and poses a serious threat to agricultural production, biodiversity and land values," Minister Pearce said.

"The project is enabling landholders and project partners to identify, treat and reduce serrated tussock infestations across priority areas, helping to prevent the weed from spreading further across the landscape.

"This coordinated approach to weed management is proving effective.

"Weeds do not respect property boundaries, which is why tackling infestations requires cooperation between landholders, local government, community organisations and the State Government.

"While we are seeing positive results, the job is not finished. Continued monitoring, early detection and prompt action are essential to preventing serrated tussock from becoming established in new areas.

"The Tasmanian Government is proud to support practical, on-ground projects like this through the Weeds Action Fund. These projects demonstrate how strategic investment, local knowledge and community action can work together to achieve more effective weed control."

The project received funding through the Tasmanian Government's Weeds Action Fund, which combats high-priority weeds across the State.
