This Saturday the streets of Stanmore will come alive with the sound of music as the St Anmoré festival returns for the first time since 2019.
St.Anmoré was created in honour of the late Richard Gill AO, renowned Australian musician, conductor, educator and Stanmore resident, who had a vision to bring music to the masses on the streets of Sydney.
The festival will include the unveiling of a plaque honouring Richard Gill, to be installed outside his home, the same place where many musicians gathered to play for him as he was dying in October 2018.
The first Festival in 2019 was a huge success and featured more than 60 local music acts performing on 10 stages around Stanmore. Thousands attended the event to enjoy the music.
Because of COVID-19, the event hasn't been held in two years, but Inner West Council and the Stanmore Music Festival Association are thrilled to welcome the festival back to the streets of Stanmore.
Mayor Darcy Byrne said, "This Saturday Inner West streets will come to life with the sound of music, played in tribute to the late and great, Australian musician, conductor and educator Richard Gill AO.
"Richard dedicated his life to the belief that music is a democratic right. This Festival continues to uphold that principle.
"The partnership between the Inner West and the St. Anmoré Music Festival is important. This community driven festival is precisely the kind of event that helps make our community the independent arts and culture capital of Australia.
"Together we have a mission to bring music, arts and culture to our streets and public spaces.
"A big thank you to Simon Chapman, Tony Egan, the Stanmore Music Festival Association and all the artists and performers for their selfless work and commitment to local music and culture in the Inner West," Mr Byrne said.
The St. Anmoré Music Festival is proudly supported through EDGE Inner West, Inner West Council's major initiative to fund and build capacity of the creative sector.
