MXGP Returns to Darwin with Biggest Program Yet

The MXGP of Australia presented by Sitzler returns to Darwin from 18-20 September, with world-class racing and the event's biggest off-track program ever.

More than 100 Australian riders will compete alongside the MXGP, MX2 and WMX world championship classes - the premier off-road motorcycle racing event.

Finocchiaro CLP Government will continue to back motorsports and major events as we restore our unique Territory lifestyle.

The countdown is on until the MXGP of Australia returns to Hidden Valley in a month's time, with three days of roaring engines, fierce competition, and a jam-packed program of uniquely Territory entertainment.

Minister for Tourism and Hospitality and Minister for Major Events, Marie-Clare Boothby, said this year's event would put the Territory's one-of-a-kind lifestyle and tourism offering on show.

"Last year, we brought the world's best motocross riders back to Australia after nearly 25 years. In a month's time, we're doing it all again - bigger and better than ever, as we cement the Territory's position as the best place in Australia for motorsports," Minister Boothby said.

"And it's not just about the world-class racing. This year will see our biggest off-track program ever, as we put our unique Territory lifestyle front-and-centre, while attracting more visitors to the Territory where they fill our hotels, pubs, and tour operators."

The off-track program includes experiences you just won't find anywhere else, including:

Kakadu Air scenic helicopter flights offering a birds-eye view of the track and Darwin CityThree daily Katherine Outback Experience shows, led by renowned Golden Guitar winner, Tom CurtainReptile Territory encounters with baby crocs, snakes, and other reptilesSuperior Sands Sandpit with electric trucks, diggers and toys for kids to dig and buildPROTRAXX Chill Zone with competitions, mini track‑building stations, e-bike test rides and an inflatable bike trackA dedicated Kids' Entertainment Program with roving entertainment.

The MXGP Rider Signing Session will also return to the Darwin Waterfront on Friday 18 September, providing fans the chance to snap a photo or snag an autograph with motorcross stars and the championship trophy itself.

Motorcycling Australia CEO, Peter Doyle, said, "As one of only two locations in Australia to host world championship motorcycle racing, Hidden Valley Motorsport Complex already holds a special place in the local sporting landscape. And after a highly successful first staging of the FIM Motocross World Championship in 2025, to be on the cusp of hosting number two is tremendously exciting."

Katherine Outback Experience's Tom Curtain said, "We're excited to bring the spirit of the outback to MXGP of Australia. Our shows mix working dogs, liberty horses, whip cracking and live music - and yes, I'll have a crack at riding a horse, singing and playing guitar all at once."
