The CFA satellite station of Toorloo brigade and Lake Tyers Trust held a NAIDOC Week family fun day with a touch of residential fire safety education.

Lake Tyers welcomed the community to their NAIDOC Week event.
NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
The wild weather posed a threat to the planned outdoor activities, so the event was held in the Community Hall on the Trust. A barbecue lunch was cooked by Bruthen brigade members, there were lucky door prizes, craft activities, Captain Koala, and the talented Pixie Violet from Pixie Palace face art.
Ambulance Victoria and the Lakes Entrance brigade crew also attended.
The event was organised by CFA volunteer Charmaine Sellings and CFA Community Engagement Coordinator Jodie Burt.
Events like this are a great demonstration of how effectively emergency services, particularly in the Gippsland area, work in collaboration with the local Koori community, to understand the importance of coordinating and recognising occasions such as NAIDOC Week. It builds on our knowledge and partnerships with Koori communities, and creates further awareness of emergency management and community safety.
