A multi-award-winning director and Oscar-nominated producer of film and interactive works, Ariel Nasr has joined the National Film Board of Canada's Quebec and Atlantic Studio as an interim producer, based in Montreal, starting October 19.
Nasr is replacing producer Kat Baulu during her one-year sabbatical.

His commitment to Quebec-based filmmakers, international experience and deep understanding of local storytelling makes Ariel an excellent addition to the NFB ecosystem," said Annette Clarke, executive producer of the Quebec and Atlantic Studio.
Nasr's most recent honours include the Rogers Audience Award from Hot Docs 2019 for his NFB/Loaded Pictures feature co-production, The Forbidden Reel, which opens in Quebec this November at RIDM. His NFB credits to date also include the Canadian Screen Award-winning The Boxing Girls of Kabul (2011) and the interactive documentary Kabul Portraits (2015).
His acclaimed independent work includes an Academy Award nomination for Best Short Film, Live Action as producer of Buzkashi Boys (2012), and more recently, writing and directing the documentary The Mosque: A Community's Struggle (2019), which opened theatrically across Quebec.
A King's College honours graduate, Nasr started his filmmaking career as an assistant editor in the Halifax office of the NFB's Quebec and Atlantic Studio.
