More older Victorians will have a place to call home thanks to a partnership between the Albanese Labor Government and the Andrews Labor Government investing in social and affordable housing in the Bayside region.
Victorian Minister for Housing Colin Brooks and Federal Minister for Housing Julie Collins today officially welcomed tenants to the $76.7 million redevelopment which will deliver 152 homes for people aged over 55 in Brighton East.
It's been made possible through a partnership with the Andrews Labor Government, HousingFirst, and the Albanese Labor Government through the National Housing Finance and Investment Corporation (NHFIC). While 36 new homes are now complete, another 116 will soon be built on the site.
The Andrews Labor Government has invested $48.9 million towards the redevelopment which will deliver much needed housing for people over 55 on the Victorian Housing Register, including those living with a disability and women at risk of homelessness.
HousingFirst has contributed $27.77 million, which includes a low-interest loan and grant funding from the Federal Government's NHFIC, as well as land donated by Halcyon Senior Citizens Village Society.
All homes will be built to modern and environmentally efficient design standards, including a 7-star NatHERS energy rating, ensuring homes are cheaper to heat and cool and more comfortable year-round.
The project is one of three social housing initiatives the State and Federal Government partnership is delivering alongside HousingFirst, with the other sites located in St Kilda and Balaclava.
The Andrews Labor Government has so far invested $321 million in Bayside under the Big Housing Build and other capital works programs to deliver 725 new homes, including a project in Brighton being delivered under a Ground Lease Model.
