National Preventive Health Strategy 2021-2030

The National Preventive Health Strategy 2021-2030 (the Strategy) is a powerful opportunity for Australia to build a stronger prevention system over the next 10 years. The Strategy will assist in preventing diseases, reducing risk factors and keeping people healthy and well. The Strategy recognises that health is not just about having a disease or injury - it is a state of wellbeing.

The Strategy aims to ensure that:

  • all Australians have the best start in life
  • all Australians live in good health and wellbeing for as long as possible
  • health equity is achieved for priority populations
  • investment in preventive health is increased.

The Strategy also includes targets that will be measured over the 10-year timeframe.

Since 2019, over 6,500 people have been involved in the development of the Strategy.

The department is currently developing a Blueprint for Action to guide the implementation of the Strategy over the coming years.
