National Reconciliation Week Community Event

The spirit of reconciliation and community engagement will be at the heart of a free National Reconciliation Week community event in Seymour on Saturday 1 June.

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

The community event in Seymour will begin with a traditional Smoking Ceremony and a Welcome to Country.

Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with a diverse program that includes a Reconciliation panel discussion and the screening of the acclaimed Cathy Freeman documentary, Freeman.

The event will also feature artist stalls, showcasing the talents and crafts of local First Nations artists, as well as a variety of food vendors and door prizes.

Mitchell Shire Mayor Councillor Louise Bannister emphasised the importance of this event in fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of First Nations culture within the community.

"National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia," she said.

"This event is a wonderful opportunity to come together, celebrate, and reflect on our journey towards reconciliation," she said.

It's on Saturday 1 June from 11am to 3pm at the Recovery Hub, 4 Guild Street, Seymour.
