National Weather Forecast: Hot And Sunny In North, Milder South

BOM
Hello it's Angus here at the Bureau. It is the 6th of October. It's Monday today, so we're taking a look at the weather for the next day or so into Tuesday and there's a few bits and pieces going on around the country, but no big weather events really stealing the headlines. We've got some rain through South Australia here tomorrow. Also a little bit of rain across the New South Wales coast. Elsewhere, it's staying very windy across Tasmania. There's a cold front approaching in the south that's more of an issue for Wednesday. Across northern Australia hot and sunny and continues to be bushfires, which are the most significant factor up here, with lots of ongoing bushfires in the Australian landscape, including through Queensland.

And it will be another hot, sunny day across the state here on Tuesday. There could be a little bit of fog across this east coast through the morning hours, but that will clear up pretty quickly and then clear blue skies for most. In terms of rainfall, it's mostly from Cairns northwards up there on the peninsula, with some moderate falls, particularly coming through in the afternoon. Away from that, it will be a little smoky in some areas because of those ongoing bushfires, but the wind is down tomorrow so we don't see any strong gusts to blow that smoke or those fires around too much.

For New South Wales, we have slightly cooler and slightly cloudier weather for Tuesday. After some hot weather in recent days, there will also be a little bit of rain across the coast here, particularly in Sydney, the Central Coast and the Hunter Coast. Maybe parts of the Illawarra Coast as well. That rain, most pronounced in the morning, should be clearing up for the afternoon hours. And actually the state becomes mostly bright and sunny again by Tuesday afternoon. Temperatures are near average.

Through to Victoria quite cloudy, potentially even a little bit gloomy in the morning across the state. It will be a touch on the cool side through the morning hours as well, with most places, if not all areas in the single digits first thing in the day. As the afternoon goes on though, the wind will shift and that will warm temperatures back up into the low twenties for some areas. And we'll also see that cloud overhead break apart, and it should become fairly sunny.

Windy weather continues, those springtime westerly winds just keep on blowing across Tasmania. Tomorrow is no different. The wind races across from this side to this side. It brings some showers all through the day to the western districts and the mountains. A few showers, mostly after lunch across the north coast, including Burnie, Devonport and Launceston. At this stage we don't anticipate any showers in Hobart, but it will be a mostly cloudy day there with a high of 17°C.

We will see some rain in western parts of South Australia on Tuesday from Ceduna northwards and then potentially affecting a few of these central areas as well. For the most part, that rain will weaken away through the course of the morning, and the afternoon onwards we'll anticipate dry weather right across South Australia. Southern areas don't see the rainfall, but they'll get often cloudy skies and some mild temperatures, a high of 19°C in Adelaide, northern parts of the state will have much warmer weather.

And out to the west, a dry day here, at least at first, as this rain in the south east pulls into South Australia and then it will be clear skies and sunshine through most of the morning. In the afternoon we'll see a little band of wet weather work its way onto the very far south-west corner. That will bring some cooler, gustier winds and some cloudier skies to Albany and Bunbury, and maybe a little drop of rain in the evening to Perth as well, but don't anticipate much wet weather there. Temperatures are mild from Carnarvon southwards, but quite warm up in the Pilbara.

And finally across the tropical north of Australia. We have the chance of a few showers around the western Top End, slight chance in Darwin. A few other spots out here and in the Kimberley could also see some rainfall, maybe a rumble of thunder as well. And away from that it is all about the heat. Temperatures continue to be above average here, approaching 40°C in most areas even out there in northern WA, so very hot weather continues throughout the day.

See what the rest of the week has in store for you on the Bureau's website or the BOM Weather app. Thanks for watching me today. Have a good one.
