Nearly 500 vessels inspected during Sydney marine operation, NSW

Police have inspected nearly 500 vessels during a two-day high-visibility marine operation at the weekend, NSW Police say.

Operation Summer Enforcement involving officers from the Marine Area Command, with assistance from Roads and Maritime Services, was conducted on Saturday (10 November 2018) and yesterday (Sunday 11 November 2018), to target vessel safety, safe navigation, speeding, alcohol and drug-related crime and anti-social behaviour.

Several waterways were targeted including the Georges River, Woronora River, Botany Bay, and Port Hacking.

Police also patrolled the Lugarno Marina.

As part of the operation, more than 300 marine random breath tests and 33 marine random drug tests were conducted.

Officers issued 34 infringement notices.

Marine Area Commander, Detective Superintendent Mark Hutchings, said police will not tolerate anti-social behaviour on the water.

"Officers from the Marine Area Command will be on the water throughout the summer period to ensure everyone is having a fun and safe time," Det Supt Hutchings said.

"We will not stand for anti-social or dangerous behaviour that puts other lives at risk on our waterways."

Similar operations will continue over the coming months.
