Neglected Ned and Bart's Lives Transformed by Kindness

Ned and his brother Bart came into our care along with four other dogs - all underweight, unsocialised and traumatised from living in squalid conditions, surrendered by a mentally unwell owner.

Three of the dogs were found locked in a small room, with shards of glass strewn across the floor from a smashed window, and three were neglected in a derelict backyard.

Bart received the medical and behavioural care he needed to thrive, and it wasn't long before he found his forever home. The transformation in his demeanour was incredible - he was hardly recognisable from the scared, defeated dog we first met.

Bart, recovered before being adopted

Ned's recovery journey took a little longer than Bart's, but thanks to the dedication of our dog team, and the compassion of animal-lovers like you, his life was changed forever.

From a state of extreme anxiety, Ned slowly learnt to relax as he realised he was safe, warm, well-fed and loved. After spending nearly a year in our care, this very special dog met a very special man. Ned now lives with Mark and his partner, who tell us they are "head over heels in love with him".

The dogs weren't the only animals suffering at this property, there were also cats and kittens. Inspector Stuart provided the owner with patient advice and support to get the cats desexed and the kittens rehomed. When he last visited, the home was in order, and things were going much better for both the owner and his cats.

Life's challenges can overwhelm people and sadly, their animals can suffer. This case shows the powerful impact your kindness has – not only for animals, but also for the people responsible for their care.

It's your kindness that transforms the lives of dogs like Ned and Bart - thank you.

We're so grateful to all our supporters who made Ned and Bart's new life a reality. Want to help more animals in urgent need, just like Ned and Bart? Head over here to see our current emergency appeals.
