Nepal death toll reaches 7,557 with 14,536 others injured

Death toll from Nepal earthquake and aftershocks reached 7,557 with the number of injured soaring to 14,536, Xinhua quoted the Ministry of Home affairs as saying on Tuesday.

The massive quake destroyed as many as 10,718 government office buildings and damaged 14,741. About 191,058 civilian houses have been flattened and 175,162 were partially devastated.

Several aftershocks have to date happened since the 7.9-magnitude quake, which besides claiming an overwhelming number of human lives from the remote Sindhupalchowk district to the heart of the capital in Kathmandu, have scared people to go home.

Sindhupalchowk, as the worst hit district recorded 2,911 causalities, followed by Kathmandu 1,202 and Nuwakot 904, the ministry said.
