ARC Chief Executive Officer, Professor Ute Roessner AM FAA, has today welcomed the establishment of the new ARC Advisory Committee by the Minister for Education, The Hon Jason Clare MP.
'The ARC understands the significance of drawing from expertise across the higher education and research sectors, as well as from industry and end-user perspectives,' Professor Roessner said.
'This Committee will offer diverse and strategic advice to help ensure the ARC continues to fund research that delivers maximum impact for the Australian community.'
The ARC Advisory Committee is a key component of the ARC's revised governance framework, established under recent amendments to the Australian Research Council Act 2001 (the Act). It will provide advice to support the ARC Board in setting priorities, strategies and policies.
The Committee is comprised of leaders from universities, industry, civil society, and public administration and includes ex-officio members of government. Each member will bring valuable experience and strategic insights to inform the ARC's policy and planning agenda.
The ARC Advisory Committee is:
- Distinguished Professor Calum Drummond AO FAA FTSE, FAICD (Chair) - Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) and Vice-President at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT)
- Professor Barry Judd (ARC Indigenous Forum Co-Chair) - Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous) and Professor of Indigenous Studies, School of Culture and Communication at the University of Melbourne
- Professor Bronwyn Fredericks (ARC Indigenous Forum Co-Chair) - Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous Engagement) at the University of Queensland
- Mr Ben Rimmer (Ex-Officio) - Deputy Secretary, Higher Education, Research and International Group, at the Department of Education
- Ms Helen Wilson (Ex-Officio) - Deputy Secretary, Science and Technology Group at the Department of Industry, Science and Resources
- Dr Jason Armstrong - Senior Manager of Boeing's Brisbane Research and Technology Centre at the University of Queensland, and member of the Business Council of Australia Research Commercialisation Working Group
- Ms Anntonette Dailey - CEO, Aviation Aerospace Australia. Previous Head of Government Relations at Virgin Australia and Board member of the Space Industry Association of Australia
- Ms Marie Efstathiou - Head of University Relations and Computer Science Education at Google Australia
