New book on bike share released on day Melbourne Bike Share was declared dead

Bike Share is a new book designed to help planners, policy makers and elected officials make great decisions about current or future bike share programs. It has been released in the same week the Victorian Government declared that the long suffering Melbourne Bike Share program would be discontinued.

Bike Share is the only book that includes a focus on bike share in the Australian context, including a detailed examination of the Melbourne and Brisbane programs.

Readers will be in a stronger position to avoid the mistakes of the past and design a scheme that is user-focused, well used and provides an attractive alternative to short car trips.

Bike Share examines all the major developments in the 50-year history of bike share programs. The book provides scholars, city planners, transportation practitioners and students with a resource that captures the most pertinent scientific findings and practical lessons that have been established from bike share programs around the world.
