- Dawesville Community Centre officially opens
- Centre will serve as a key hub for region with a growing population
- More than $6 million invested by the Cook Government into the facility's construction
Dawesville residents have a new hub and multipurpose venue to access with the completion of the Dawesville Community Centre.
The centre was officially opened today and will provide an important space for local groups, families and young people and enhance community participation, connection and wellbeing.
The Cook Government has invested $6.237 million towards construction of the facility. The City of Mandurah, which managed the project and will oversee its operations, also received a $2.65 million Lotterywest grant for the centre.
The centre will service the expanding southern corridor of Mandurah, with the population of the area expected to double to around 15,000 by 2036.
The community centre features a communal hall with stage, commercial kitchen and function areas, office space and meeting rooms, sound-insulated activity rooms, dedicated youth and playgroup spaces, and outdoor playgrounds and landscaped green space.
As stated by Regional Development Minister Stephen Dawson:
"With the region's population continuing to grow, this community centre will serve as a hub for Mandurah's southern communities now and for many years to come.
"The new facility will provide the community with a contemporary and modern space for groups, families and neighbours to work, learn and play.
"The Cook Government is working collaboratively to build strong regions with strong communities and economies."
As stated by Peel Minister Jessica Stojkovski:
"Congratulations to the City of Mandurah on delivering a state-of-the-art building that will serve the community well into the future.
"This project has successfully delivered a modern hub for Mandurah's fast-growing southern corridor - delivering a place for connecting, learning and support for all generations."
As stated by Dawesville MLA Lisa Munday:
"I'm absolutely thrilled to be opening this wonderful new centre for our community.
"This space has been designed with the people of Dawesville in mind - a place where locals can connect, find support, take place in activities and enjoy a fabulous new building right in the heart of our neighbourhood.
"Dawesville is one of the fastest-growing communities in the Peel region and it's so important we have the right facilities to grow in ways that strengthen connection and community spirit.
"The City of Mandurah has had so much interest from local groups eager to use the centre, which really shows just how needed and valued this space will be for Dawesville."
