The Albanese Government has today announced the appointment of Ann Sherry AO as the new Chair of Housing Australia.
As Chair, Ms Sherry will guide Housing Australia through its next phase as it continues to play a central role in delivering the Albanese Government's ambitious $47 billion housing agenda.
Ms Sherry is highly qualified for the role, bringing extensive leadership experience across government, business and the community sector, as well as a strong record of leading large and complex organisations.
Alongside Ms Sherry's appointment, the Albanese Government has today released an independent Capability Assessment of Housing Australia, led by Mr Ken Kanofski.
Housing Australia is responsible for delivering major parts of the Government's housing agenda, including the 5 per cent Deposit Scheme, Help to Buy and the Housing Australia Future Fund - helping more Australians buy a home and access safe and secure housing.
Through the Government's commitment to deliver 55,000 social and affordable homes, more than 7,000 are already complete, with tens of thousands more progressing through planning and construction over the next three years. This makes the next phase of Housing Australia's work even more critical.
The Assessment found that over the past 18 months Housing Australia has strengthened its governance, systems, processes and delivery capability while managing rapid growth and taking on significant new responsibilities.
It makes 13 recommendations to further strengthen the organisation and sharpen its focus on delivery, all of which have been endorsed by the Government.
The Assessment provides a strong blueprint for Housing Australia's next phase and for Ms Sherry to take forward as its new Chair.
