New Chevron tower to create more jobs for WA economy

  • The Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority has granted Chevron Australia development approval for their Australian headquarters on Lot 7 at Elizabeth Quay, on the corner of The Esplanade and Barrack Street.

    The $360 million 30-storey multi-use tower incorporates more than 52,000 square metres of office floor space including lobby, exhibition spaces and conference facilities.

    The lower levels include childcare and gymnasium space with retail tenancies and café/restaurants on the ground floor, to activate large areas of open plaza facing into Elizabeth Quay.

    In June 2018, Chevron entered into a Heads of Agreement with Brookfield. The development partnership would see Brookfield develop the Elizabeth Quay tower with Chevron as the anchor tenant.

    In recommending the proposal for approval, the Central Perth Land Redevelopment Committee noted the unique architectural design and a mix of commercial, dining and entertainment, retail and community land uses that will complement Elizabeth Quay.

    The development will provide more jobs, maximising local development industry involvement including equipment and services, with the peak construction workforce expected to reach 1,000 on-site.

    Current plans show the proposed construction is set to begin in 2020.

    As stated by Planning Minister Rita Saffioti:

    “The McGowan Government is committed to making Elizabeth Quay as self-sustainable as possible into the future – this development is a milestone.

    “We welcome the news that after a number of years Chevron Australia’s development plans are gaining momentum and we can move forward with delivering a vibrant, activated precinct.

    “Chevron’s new tower will be home to thousands of employees, benefiting small businesses throughout the city and offering lasting economic benefit to the State. 

    “Brookfield’s commitment to maximise local industry involvement is great news for the State. When construction begins, this development will create hundreds of on-site jobs plus a major flow-on of work through local contracts.”
