New childcare centre recommended for approval

Townsville parents could soon have a new childcare option, with a development application for a childcare centre on Bundock Street recommended for approval yesterday.

The proposal would see the construction of a childcare centre that would create up to 26 jobs and cater for 130 children for full-time placements and 30 children for after-school placements.

Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said a new childcare centre on Bundock Street would service the thousands of residents both living and working in the vicinity.

"This development proposal would benefit our residents living and working close to the centre by providing them with more opportunities to secure a childcare placement, especially as our population and the demand continues to grow.

"It will also support our childcare sector by creating 26 new full-time jobs, which is fantastic for our early childcare workers that need secure and ongoing work.

"It's fantastic to see a proposal that will support the growth of our community and boost our economy, not only by creating new jobs, but making it easier for parents to balance their personal and work lives."

The application will go to Full Council for consideration on 27 October.
