New Constables Ready to Serve Queensland Communities

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) front line has been bolstered as another cohort of First Year Constables (FYCs) are welcomed to the blue family.

Yesterday, 35 recruits graduated from the QPS Academy in Oxley, and will now be deployed to locations across Queensland to protect and serve the local communities.

The cohort includes recruits from a vast range of backgrounds, including current QPS employees, former Australian Defence Force members, as well as health, skilled trades, farming, hospitality and retail workers.

Acting Commissioner Brett Pointing APM congratulated the graduates and welcomed them to the QPS, acknowledging the commitment and discipline they had demonstrated throughout their training.

"Graduation marks a significant milestone and the beginning of a rewarding career in service to the Queensland community," Acting Commissioner Pointing said.

"As these graduates transition from recruit training to their duties as First Year Constables, they will have the privilege and responsibility of supporting people, keeping communities safe and making a positive difference in the lives of Queenslanders.

"Each new officer brings their own strengths, experiences and perspectives to the QPS. I encourage them to continue learning, uphold the highest standards and earn the trust of the communities they serve."

Constable Claudia Stiller is being deployed to Mt Isa.

At the end of her academy training, she received the multiple commendations including the Commissioner's Award, the Dux Award and Domestic and Family Violence Protection award in recognition of her leadership, academic achievements and practical application.

"It's incredibly humbling to be recognised for my hard work and dedication, and I'm very grateful for my time at the academy, and to my peers and mentors," Constable Stiller said.

"I'm looking forward to being deployed in rural Queensland, because you get the chance to be part of a tight knit community.

"I feel like I can make a real difference with the people in the community, whether it's through positive interactions on a good day, or being a supportive and reliable presence on a bad day."

Mother of four, Constable Victoria Louw, holds a degree in Criminology and a Masters in Intelligence.

She was inspired to become a police officer after working as a QPS administration officer at Ravenshoe Police Station for three years and will now be starting her policing career in Atherton.

"Working alongside officers every day inspired me to take up a career in policing," Constable Louw said.

"I saw first-hand the positive impact policing can have, so I decided to become an officer to also be able to serve the community."

After spending seven years as a police officer in Taiwan, Constable Kai Chin says he aligns with the QPS values and is looking forward to starting a rewarding career in Mackay.

"I imagine being a police officer in a different country will be challenging but rewarding, I'm really looking forward to it," Constable Chin said.

"The members of the QPS live their values of integrity, respect and courage.

These are values that I align with both professionally and personally."
