Daniel Lambauer will join the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) from the National Audit Office (NAO) in October, taking the reins from Erik Wilson who is retiring.
Daniel currently serves as Executive Director at the NAO with responsibility for Strategy and Resources. In this role, he oversees the NAO's corporate services functions, and acts also as Chief Information Officer and Senior Information Responsible Owner.
Prior to the NAO, he worked in a range of sectors, including academia, management consultancy and the Civil Service. He is also an external member of the Audit Committee of the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General of Ireland.
The Chief Operating Officer at the CMA is responsible for overseeing a range of teams in the Corporate Services directorate and works closely with the Chief Executive to provide organisational leadership and ensure the organisation achieves its strategic objectives. Daniel will report directly to the CMA's Chief Executive, Sarah Cardell, and, subject to the appointment by the Secretary of State, will be an executive member of the CMA Board.
Daniel Lambauer said:
The CMA's work is crucial in helping people to benefit from great choices and fair deals, enabling businesses to innovate and thrive in competitive markets, and making the UK economy productive and sustainable. I am delighted to be joining the CMA at an exciting time as its responsibilities grow, and I am looking forward to working alongside talented and committed colleagues.
Sarah Cardell said:
I warmly welcome Daniel into this role which is central to keeping the cogs turning on all the vital work we do for consumers and businesses. Daniel brings a wealth of experience which will benefit the CMA and I look forward to working closely with him.
To welcome a great colleague, we say goodbye to another - I also want to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to Erik for all of his work, passion and dedication over the years.
Erik held the role of Chief Operating Officer from 2020 and was an Executive Director at the CMA before that. Erik also held various roles with the CMA's predecessor, the Office of Fair Trading, from 2006 to 2013.
