Council has officially adopted its new Corporate Plan 2026-2031 at the January Ordinary Meeting of Council, marking a significant milestone in shaping the region's future.

The plan establishes long-term goals to guide Council's strategic direction, service delivery, and advocacy priorities over the next five years.

Western Downs Regional Council Mayor Andrew Smith said the newly adopted Corporate Plan demonstrates how Council will transform community priorities into action, guiding decisions on future projects and services.

"The engagement process, which began in December, was a vital step in developing a shared strategy for the ongoing sustainability and prosperity of the Western Downs," Cr Smith said.

"The Corporate Plan now clearly outlines Council's vision, priorities, and goals, underpinning all decision-making on future budgets, projects, and resource allocation."

Cr Smith said the Plan is structured around four strategic priorities: diverse, thriving economy; vibrant, connected communities; a balanced, prosperous lifestyle; and a sustainable, effective Council.

"These pillars reflect our unwavering commitment to people, progress, performance, and place," he said.

"The Plan also reaffirms Council's dedication to meaningful communications and community engagement, and key advocacy priorities across transport, water, telecommunications, and the local economy."

"In line with the Local Government Act 2009 and Local Government Regulation 2012, Council's Corporate Plan will be updated every five years to ensure it responds to the evolving needs of the community.

"Council thanks all residents who provided valuable feedback during the recent consultation period, ensuring the Corporate Plan 2026-2031 reflects the community's aspirations and sets a strong course for the region's future."
