New councillor elected to Bellarine Ward

Greater Geelong Council has welcomed its newest councillor, with Elise Wilkinson elected following a countback conducted by the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC).

The extraordinary vacancy in the Bellarine Ward arose due to the resignation of Stephanie Asher on 29 July.

The VEC on Monday conducted a countback of all formal votes from the Bellarine Ward in the 2020 Greater Geelong City Council.

Votes were redistributed to all remaining eligible candidates from the general election.

Ms Wilkinson was sworn into office at a ceremony at Wurriki Nyal on Friday.

Mayor Trent Sullivan congratulated Ms Wilkinson on joining the Council.

On behalf of Council, I welcome Elise to the team and I'm looking forward to working with her to represent the Bellarine Ward and wider Geelong community.

The Mayor also thanked Ms Asher for her service to the municipality since 2017.

The Greater Geelong region benefited from the leadership and drive of Stephanie. We thank her for the valuable contribution she made and wish her well for the next phase of her corporate career.
