Arts and culture programs for the City of Swan community will now be available six days a week at the Midland Junction Arts Centre (MJAC).

It comes after the City of Swan awarded Mundaring Arts Centre Incorporated as its preferred tenderer to deliver services from MJAC for the next 10 years.

This service offering will feature a curated program of exhibitions and a new gallery shop, as well as consistent workshops, artist residencies, talks, tours and performing arts events.

This new agreement will also prioritise developing the local arts industry and community partnerships, celebrating the talent of local artists with consistent professional development and presentation opportunities.

City of Swan Mayor David Lucas said under the agreement the local community would benefit from more sustainable arts and culture programs.

"This is a major cultural milestone for the City, which recognises the role of arts and culture services in visitor and resident attraction, community wellbeing and CBD vibrancy for the Swan community" he said.

"MJAC holds a special and significant history in our community as a place of education and learning, community and arts activity for over 100 years; with thousands of people having connected with the building since 1904," he said.

"This is the first 10-year agreement for arts services at Midland Junction Arts Centre.

"The tenure shows our trust in Mundaring Arts Centre Inc. as the City's Not-for-profit service delivery partner, who have shown outstanding capacity and experience in delivering arts and culture programs.

Entrusting the building with a 10 year lease will provide important stability for this organisation to go out and secure additional funding partners to expand their MJAC service offering."

Mundaring Arts Centre Inc. have been providing a range of specialist art and cultural services for the City since 2014, including the management of MJAC since 2017. The organisation has a 43-year history of delivering art and culture services programs in the eastern metropolitan region, having managed the Mundaring Arts Centre since the organisation's beginnings as a community group in 1979.

The City of Swan has contributed more than $1.5 million to the management and activation of MJAC, ensuring consistent and quality arts programming for the community.

This new agreement is a timely progression following the Mundaring Art Centre Inc.'s successful management and operation of MJAC for four days per week from 2017-2022.

Local artists who would like to be involved in the centre's service are encouraged to contact the team at MJAC.
