New export opportunities for Tasmanian food & beverage producers

Jeremy Rockliff, Premier

Asia's largest food and beverage trade event kicks off from today with a Tasmanian delegation in attendance to showcase our premium produce on the international stage.

Food and Hotel Asia (FHA) will run from 5-8 September in Singapore, and is expected to host around 3 500 exhibitors and attract an estimated 48 000 buyers, as well as industry experts from more than 100 countries.

It's another fantastic opportunity to showcase what Tasmania does best to thousands of purchasers and distributors, with Singapore one of five priority markets identified in the Tasmanian Trade Strategy. It is also a key destination in the upcoming ASEAN Trade Mission in October.

FHA is arguably the most influential international food show and is a renowned sourcing platform for buyers and distributors throughout Asia - allowing Tasmanian producers to broaden their sales networks and sign more international contracts.

Premium Tasmanian food and beverages participating in FHA include Tasmanian salmon, rock lobster, gourmet cheese and yoghurt, whisky and gin, organic tea and honey, and specialty tonic water.

Tasmanian exports are at a record high of $4.75 billion and have grown over $2 billion, or 70 per cent since June 2014.

Overall Tasmanian companies currently export nearly $1 billion in food and beverages each year with exports growing at 8 per cent a year despite trade and export disruptions cause by COVID-19.

Tasmanian Government support for local businesses to take part in FHA is part of our commitment to grow our export earnings to $15 billion by 2050 through our Tasmanian Trade Strategy.
