Netballers in Perth's northern suburbs will benefit from a major transformation at the Carine Regional Open Space, with an additional $500,000 committed from the Cook Labor Government to deliver three upgraded netball courts.
This new funding builds on the Cook Labor Government's previous $250,000 election commitment to upgrade and extend the existing facilities, bringing the State's total contribution to $750,000, with the City of Stirling leading delivery and funding the remainder of the project.
Following consultation with the City, Carine Netball Club and Netball WA, the expanded project will deliver three new netball courts - replacing the existing court - along with lighting, fencing, shelter, seating, storage facilities and access paths.
The redevelopment will improve facilities for players, coaches, volunteers and families, supporting Carine Netball Club's growth and helping establish Carine Regional Open Space as a regional hub for netball.
These works form part of the Cook Labor Government's PlayOn WA initiative, which is providing investment in community sport and recreation infrastructure across Western Australia.
PlayOn WA will deliver 2,030 infrastructure items by 2030, ensuring long-term benefits for communities across the State.
As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister Rita Saffioti:
"This investment in community sport will triple the netball court capacity at Carine Regional Open Space and open the door for many more people to get involved in netball.
"By increasing our commitment to $750,000, we can deliver a more comprehensive redevelopment that better meets the club's long-term needs.
"The project is exactly what PlayOn WA is about - providing quality local facilities that encourage participation, support volunteers and bring communities together."
As stated by Scarborough MLA Stuart Aubrey:
"The Carine Netball Club supports families from across Gwelup, Karrinyup, Trigg and the surrounding area, and these new courts will give the club the fit-for-purpose facilities it needs to keep growing.
"Across our community, the Cook Labor Government has been investing in better lighting, changerooms and playing space so local clubs can accommodate growing participation, particularly among women and girls.
"This project continues that work by making sure the facilities keep pace with the people who want to play."
As stated by City of Stirling Mayor Mark Irwin AM:
"We have a significant shortage of public netball courts in the City of Stirling and that's why it is important we make the most of this opportunity at Carine Regional Open Space.
"The increased funding commitment from the State Government will allow us to deliver a regional netball hub, bridging a gap in netball facilities in the central northern suburbs and create a more fitting home for Carine Netball Club.
"This substantial investment from both the State Government and the City reflects a shared commitment to supporting netball and providing high-quality community sporting infrastructure.
