New fenced off-leash area for pooches in Carrum

A new fenced off-leash area for pooches in Carrum

A new fenced dog park was officially unveiled at Roy Dore Reserve in Carrum this week by Kingston Mayor Steve Staikos, the Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change, Lily D'Ambrosio and Member for Carrum, Sonya Kilkenny MP and a host of local dog owners and pets.

The new park is fully fenced and features a nature play activity area for pets to explore.

Kingston Mayor Steve Staikos said dog owners in the Carrum and Patterson Lakes have a fantastic new space for pooches to exercise.

"We are delighted to partner with the Victorian Government to deliver the first fenced, off-leash dog park in the southern part of Kingston."

This $367k development was made possible with support from the Victorian Government. It also features:

  • Interactive surfaces including grass, gravel and mulch
  • A drinking fountain with a dog bowl
  • New canopy shade tree plantings

The upgrade complements the transformation of the Roy Dore Reserve undertaken over recent years - with the development of the $4 million Carrum Family and Children's Centre and the $9.1 million Carrum Community Sports Complex.

Banksia Ward Councillor Cameron Howe said the completed project has been welcomed by the local community.

"This shaded, play space for dogs in the heart of Carrum in a secure, fenced environment has become a popular addition to Roy Dore Reserve, with nearby picnicking, playground and sport amenities for a range of users," Cr Howe said.

The new off-leash dog park at Roy Dore Reserve is one of more than 30 off-leash parks across Kingston.

Please remember that when dogs are off leash they must remain in sight and under effective voice or hand control at all times. Be sure to carry a leash and litter removal device and keep your dog under effective control near any occupied sportsgrounds, playgrounds, picnic and BBQ areas or organised events.

Let's all do our bit to ensure that dogs of all sizes and abilities can safely play off-leash, exercise and enjoy nature.
