New flight option for travel between Perth and Kalgoorlie

  • Northern Star Resources and Alliance Airlines to trial $199 community fare on weekly Perth-Kalgoorlie air route
  • Arrangement follows other partnerships between resource companies and airlines to make community airfares available on Pilbara air services
  • McGowan Government committed to delivering affordable and accessible regional airfares
  • Work underway on election commitment to cap airfares at two zones
  • The McGowan Government has today welcomed the announcement a new flight will be available between Perth and Kalgoorlie, with Northern Star Resources and Alliance Airlines making community seats available to residents and visitors on their weekly flight.

Under the new arrangement with the State Government, from May 20, seats will be available at $199 each way on the weekly Alliance Airlines return flight between Perth and Kalgoorlie.

The flight operates on Thursday mornings, departing Perth at 5:25am, with the return service departing Kalgoorlie at 7:10am. Seats can be booked now on the Alliance Airlines website.

The new agreement follows similar recent partnerships between resource companies and airlines that have made more affordable community airfares available on flights to Newman, Port Hedland and Onslow.

The McGowan Government is committed to delivering affordable and accessible regional airfares and is working to introduce a key election commitment by capping airfares at two zones.

As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:

"I commend Northern Star Resources and Alliance Airlines for making more flights available at an affordable price for Goldfields residents, their friends and family, and visitors to the region.

"These new community fares provide a new option for locals to travel to Perth, people wanting to visit the beautiful Goldfields region, and businesses needing to fly in contractors and staff.

"This trial complements our Government's $19.8 million election commitment to a Regional Airfares Zone Cap, which will see the cost of flights to and from Perth capped at $199 each way for regional residents living within 1000km and $299 for regional residents further afield.

"Access to affordable flights plays a key role in supporting economic development in the regions and keeping communities connected."

As stated by Kalgoorlie MLA Ali Kent:

"The issue of ridiculously high prices of flights to Perth and back has been raised with me since being announced as the candidate last year.

"Cheaper flights will benefit every Goldfielder, in many ways. For some, it is regular medical appointments in Perth or an unexpected family emergency, and for others it is trying to meet business commitments.

"I know this announcement will mean so much to our community and I am proud of the McGowan Labor Government for working hard to deliver this outcome."
