Rockhampton Regional Council is building safer and more accessible communities, with more than two kilometres of new and renewed footpaths delivered over the past financial year.

Crews have almost complete $650,000 worth of upgrades along Exhibition Road and Graeme Acton Way, improving pedestrian safety and accessibility in one of the city's busiest event and sporting precincts.

The project includes the construction of new footpaths, drainage improvements, a new pedestrian crossing and pedestrian refuges to help residents and visitors move safely through the area.

It forms part of Council's continued investment in pedestrian infrastructure across the region.

Recent footpath projects included:

  • 250 metres of renewed footpath along Main Street between Haynes Street and the rail line;
  • 200 metres of new footpath along Canning Street between Cambridge and Albert streets as part of the Canning Street project;
  • Approximately 600 metres of new footpaths delivered as part of the Birkbeck roundabout project;
  • 500 metres of new footpaths along Graeme Acton Way and Exhibition Road;
  • More than 300 metres of new footpaths around Crescent Lagoon State School, including works on Eton Street, Considine Street and North Street Extended;
  • 320 metres of new footpath along Robert Clark Drive as part of Rockynats precinct improvements; and
  • Renewal of the paved pedestrian area at the Rockhampton Showgrounds entrance.
