Annangrove Public School students can now walk or ride to school more easily and safely thanks to a footpath extension completed by The Hills Shire Council and funded by the NSW Government.

An additional 300-metre concrete pathway was recently constructed outside the local primary school to provide better access to the facility and to homes, as well as to cars that park along Annangrove Road during school pick-up and drop-off.

Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Peter Gangemi said the footpath was made possible thanks to funding received under Transport for NSW's Get NSW Active program, which aims to increase walking and cycling across the state.

"Every child has the right to access their school safely," Mayor Gangemi said.

"That's why Council is working hard to provide more active links, such as footpaths and cycleways, that will make it easier to walk, run or cycle to and from school, as well as to parks, public transport and major centres.

"Footpaths are extremely important. They keep our community connected, take cars off our roads, reduce traffic congestion and promote active lifestyles.

"We are very grateful for the NSW Government's support on this project which means students like Victoria and Humna can now walk to school more safely."

Annangrove Public School P&C Secretary Melissa Riddell said the new pathway made it easier and safer for the community.

"Before the pathway was extended, students and parents were walking through the grass and the mud to access the school," Melissa said.

"Now they can easily and safely walk to and from the school gates and access their cars and homes.

"We are very grateful to The Hills Shire Council, who listened to our requests for a footpath extension."
