New Footpaths Being Built In Ararat

Work has started on a safer new footpath for pedestrians on the southern side of Wilson Street in Ararat, between Campbell Street and Baird Street.

The works are being carried out by local business O'Brien Concreting and are expected to take approximately three weeks to complete, weather permitting.

The project includes the installation of around 420 metres of new 1.5-metre-wide pedestrian footpath.

"This long-awaited improvement will provide a safer and more accessible walking space for pedestrians," said CEO Dr Tim Harrison.

"During construction there will be appropriate traffic management in place and there may be some minor disruptions, and we appreciate your patience while these works are completed."

On Monday 30 March, work will begin on the construction of a new footpath on the western side of Albert Street, Ararat between McGibbony Street and the end of the court bowl and from the Retirement Village to Gordon Street Recreation Reserve. This project, funded by the Victorian Government's Flexible Local Transport Solutions Program, will be carried out by Accurate Bricks and should take about three weeks to complete, weather permitting.

"Solar lighting will also be installed at the section of new footpath leading to the reserve to maximise visibility for pedestrians at night," added Dr Harrison.
