Rockhampton Regional Council has announced additional funding aimed at creating more opportunities for residents to come together and build stronger and more inclusive communities.

Deputy Mayor and Communities Culture and Heritage Councillor Drew Wickerson said Council had added an additional funding round within the Community Assistance Program to support events and initiatives being held from April to August 2026.

"The Community Assistance Program's sole aim is to support events that enhance our Region," Cr Wickerson said.

"Throughout 2025, the program has supported more than 70 clubs and groups with over $160,000 for cultural, sporting, sustainability and community events and initiatives.

"And we are thrilled that as we approach the end of 2025, we can provide an additional round to support even more events and initiatives.

"In the last few months alone, we've seen a fantastic variety of events, including the Bouldy Christmas Fair, the Kanaka Proud Cup Rugby League Challenge, Frenchville State Schools 125th Celebrations and a Sri Lankan Cultural Dinner.

"While diverse in their purpose, these events have brought people of all ages, backgrounds and locations together and created memorable experiences, celebrating local culture and enhancing community wellbeing.

"We're calling on local community groups, sporting clubs and not-for-profit organisations to take advantage of this additional opportunity.

"The feedback we receive from past recipients speaks volumes about the value of this program.

"It supports clubs and groups to run financially viable sporting and community events, implement new environmental initiatives and contribute to a connected region.

"We highlight the next available round - Round 1 for 2026/2027 - will not open until 25 May and close on 12 July for events held between September 2026 and January 2027."
